Happy Living | Blog“Life without love is no life at all.”
(Leonardo da Vinci)

Get to know Happy Living’s new guy, Jon Grant, author of Snow Valley: Last of the Ski Bums.

Jon is an artist, athlete, educator, hippy, and historian.

He’s taught humanities at the University of California Santa Cruz and at Northern Arizona University, been a professional quarterback, coached football at Cabrillo Community College, covered sports for two newspapers, worked as a blogger, ran his own photography business, been a damn fine bellman, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Ancient History, earned a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts—and is a published writer of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

As a collegiate quarterback, Jon led the U.C. Davis Aggies to an historic, last-second upset over the Stanford Cardinal, and in his final professional game found fourth-quarter magic again as his Berlin Adler defeated the Kiel Baltic-Hurricanes in German Bowl XXXI.

Following that championship, J.G. retired from the game for the freedom of a new challenge, dedicating himself to the fine art of ski bumming—living in closets, hallways, tents, vans, and trailers—all so he could ski more and work less.

He once skied 122 days in a single season. . . that’s more than one-out-of-every-three days in the calendar year.

The peace and magic of Sierra Nevada living have rebirthed Jon’s creativity once again—inviting him to follow his childhood hero John Steinbeck into a life of letters and activism.

At 34 years old, Grant is thrilled to release his debut novel, Snow Valley: Last of the Ski Bums. To be part of the excitement, join his “launch team” by clicking here.

Jon loves the living of life, and he is stoked to have found the Happy Living community. Start a conversation with him by leaving a comment below.
