#16 – Ed Hearn

Jun 14, 2018 | Something Significant Podcast | 0 comments

“Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only God can count the number of apples in a seed.”
(Robert H. Schuller)

When Ed Hearn was drafted in the 4th round by the Philadelphia Phillies, he bravely decided to follow his dreams. He passed on an appointment to the West Point Military Academy; said “no, thanks” to multiple college football and baseball opportunities; and jumped headfirst into the pursuit of becoming a major league baseball player.

While his years in the minor leagues were marked by a series of successes, surgeries, and rehabilitations, eight years later, Ed finally made his debut in the major leagues—as part of the 1986 World Series Champion New York Mets!

Unfortunately, this dream of Ed’s was not destined to last. In addition to more baseball-related surgery, he also experienced a rash of non-baseball-related illnesses: multiple kidney failures, severe sleep apnea, hypoglobulinemia, and horrible side effects from lots and lots of medication. It was one blow after another, until Ed lost almost everything: his career, his health, and very nearly his life!

But Ed made a choice. At the lowest point in his downward spiral, he decided he would not quit. Armed with his faith and with his devoted wife by his side—step by step—he rose from the ashes of his near destruction to discover an unexpected dream…the dream he was meant to live.

I’m excited for you to meet my friend Ed Hearn on this episode of the Something Significant Podcast and for you to hear his inspiring story of a life that he calls “From the Penthouse to the Outhouse and Back!”
